When we think of our bodies we think of them as our own: organs and energy, flesh and emotions, breath and motion. Our bodies are also tools: we control our movements and take care of the inputs and outputs. Others see them as tools as well. The company owner who sees a laborer, the man on the street who sees a woman's figure as his for the taking, a security camera that sees data points as we move through the streets.
As much as our bodies are OUR OWN, they are being used by others frequently - with and without our knowledge.
Put to Work aims to explore the daily instances that our bodily autonomy is compromised and the impact of, and reaction to, this reality. The exhibition explores this theme through the eyes of 14 different artists across multiple mediums.
NOTE: some of the work shown may not be appropriate for young eyes.
